FAQs

  • What a coach does:
    - allows you to choose the topic of focus for each session
    - helps you set specific goals for what you want to get out of each session
    - asks a series of questions to understand what’s getting in the way of you taking the next steps
    - ensures you have a few smalls actions you can do between sessions to promote forward progress towards your stated goals

    What a coach brings:
    - Listening ear for feelings during times of hardship or celebration
    - Provide energetic support and fortifying strength
    - Keep you accountable by following up with you on chosen action items
    - Non-attachment to outcome, so the process is always targeting what YOU want to work on
    - With you every step of the way

  • I’m often asked why people should work with coaches rather than leaning solely on friends and family. Obviously, friends and family can be a huge source of support as you make changes in your life. Friends and family who are close enough to you to provide support probably care about you and know you much better than a coach!

But these people are often attached to the outcome of your choices, have strong opinions about what you should do with your life, or don’t always have the emotional resources necessary to help you through hard times. Not to mention, loved ones don’t want to create tension in their relationship with you. In short, people in our lives are more likely to avoid pushing us outside our comfort zones because they don’t want to rock the boat.

A coach has nothing at stake and nothing to lose. They are just here to help you figure out how to get where you’re going, and it is their sole role to support you on that path.

  • There are three core tenets to my coaching philosophy:

    1. You already have all the answers — you just don’t know it yet. No one in this life could make a better life plan for you than you could. You understand your value system. You know what’s important to you. You understand the nuances of your beliefs. As a result, I will never give you advice or tell you what to do. I’m here to help you uncover what you already intuitively know and to tell you what I see.

    2. Just start. You need to make a change to see a change. I will help keep you on track by ensuring you have small next steps you can take after every session. This does not mean you need to commit to following through on a multi-years-long endeavor in session #1. We can always alter course if you are seeing different results than what you want or if you change your mind. It does mean that you will be making progress with every passing week and watching the progress accumulate quickly.

    3. Everything is better together. Dealing with uncertainty is very challenging, and it can be helpful to have someone with you for the entire journey. That’s where I come in. I will always be here to help by lending my strength, listening, and asking questions to figure out what you want to do next if things become emotionally challenging or when something unexpected happens. This will help you execute on your dreams with not only confidence, but also excitement and passion.

  • A lot of people are held back by fears of what might happen to them if they follow their dreams, even though they know something in their life isn’t working or optimal. It’s tragic that fear is the thing that holds people back.

I don’t think everyone should throw convention out the window. Conventions and traditions are often in place for good reason and are based in feelings and experiences that are valid. I don’t think one needs to shun convention, but I think it’s important to look at each thing that constrains a person’s behavior and investigate it. “Is this really what I believe in? Is this really what I value? Is this in alignment with how I want to be in life?” I think it’s easy to fall into a pattern where one goes through life saying “I should be doing this” or “I need to do that” and not giving real consideration to whether this convention is relevant and valuable in the current context. I think it’s important to be in touch with what’s motivating someone’s behavior. Are the customs serving them, or is the person complying because they are afraid of adverse consequences?

Despite these fears, people can still feel the pressure of incredible potential under the surface. Something new wants to be created through them. When someone begins to connect with that potential and take the first few steps outside the box without regard to what others will think … that’s when they will begin to flourish and thrive.

Yes, it can be a rocky journey to do something new or start over. I have a deep respect for anyone who takes the plunge. And I think when one is doing something that feels meaningful to them (even if they don’t know why it brings them fulfillment), it brings a fresh vigor and a whole new level of energy to their life. It won’t necessarily come all at once. It can emerge over a period of time. Months or years. Eventually they will take a look back and think “I’m in such a better place emotionally, spiritually, mentally than I was when I started”. That person knows they are following their intuition and they’re doing what they are meant to be doing. The peace that comes with that is the ultimate feeling. It’s the best satisfaction. Fulfillment.

I’m excited about working with people who want to embark on this journey. Thrilled that they continue to take the next step despite their fear. They’re full of potential and possibility, and they’re stepping into it. They do the work and handle the hardships. And, at last, to see them arrive in that peace and fulfillment is awe-inducing. People who manage this are positively radiant. They feel deep pride in themselves. Can you imagine watching someone go through that whole journey? It is inspiring to see people succeed in that way. And it brings fulfillment and satisfaction to me because I know how hard it is to keep taking small steps even when there’s fear, and it’s touching and joy-inducing to know that I helped support them in conquering whatever challenges felt important at that point in their life.
